Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the general maintenance worker will be handling street equipment to repair and maintain potholes and drainage inlets/culverts. The operator also performs general manual labor involved with construction, repair, and maintenance of city facilities, brush collection, street cleaning, graffiti cleaning, and signs installations. Must be able to operate Street paving equipment, tractor mowers, water pumps, and dump trailers
Equipment and Materials
Must be able to operate light equipment; use hand tools associated with manual labor and minor equipment repair. Employees working on installing signs may use a post hole digger, hole auger, air compressor, pressure washer. Must be able to operate work trucks and all equipment safely and effectively.
Assists in the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater system and components; inspects water and wastewater lines; repairs line leaks and breaks; cleans and maintains lift stations; maintains and flushes water hydrants; checks and cleans valves and manhole covers; digs and fills holes and trenches; maintains landscaping; clears trash, brush, weeds, and debris from adjoining areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs manual work such as installing street signs, pavement marking maintenance, pothole repairs, street maintenance, picking up debris or brush, clean drainage inlets/culverts.
- Loads/unloads materials, trash, garbage, etc., onto the truck.
- Operates equipment attached to the truck while working on projects to repair streets.
- Assists in the installation of new water, sewer systems, and components.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and ensures all equipment is put away when no longer in use.
- Cross trains in all utility maintenance tasks.
- Maintains a record of the equipment operations.

Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude for Job
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid TXDL (Class C) or better with a satisfactory driving record; must maintain a clean driving record.
- Must have the ability to communicate (read/write) in English; bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
- Must be able to manage time efficiently with self-initiative.
- Must have the ability to work well with others and complete work activities.
- This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to physical exams and drug and alcohol testing.
Expectations
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- The job requires working evenings, weekends, and during all types of severe weather and other emergencies when needed.
- All employees are required to work on-call when necessary.
- Individual works outdoors under conditions involving extreme heat and cold weather.
- Required to follow all safety rules and regulations to work efficiently and productively; must immediately report all accidents and equipment damage.
- Required to wear appropriate attire for the job duties and responsibilities; must follow and practice all city policies and procedures.
